For eighth-grader Vanessa the easy-going life of summer vacation stretches before her in all its glory. Her visions of sleeping late every morning and watching as much television as possible evaporate quickly, though. Her mother has arranged for her to spend two weeks with her aunt, uncle, and cousins she barely knows on a farm! Making matters worse, the farm is haunted by a Civil War ghost reisiding in a cemetery only steps from the house. This is definitely not the plan she had in mind for her summer of 1967.

About Madalyn S. Kinsey

Madalyn Kinsey was raised in Indianapolis, and made her first attempt at writing a novel at age five on the family’s manual typewriter. Searching for inspiration for a book she could commit herself to completing, she thought of her frequent childhood visits with her extended family on the family farm near Fishers, Indiana. Those fond memories inspired the story…

School had been out for about a week when my mother entered my room one morning and told me the news. I remained in bed in my home in Indianapolis for as long as I cared to that morning, enjoying the easy going pace of life that comes with being an eighth grader home for summer vacation in 1967. I was old enough to enjoy summer’s freedom, but too young to have the restrictions of a summer job. Sleeping in as late as I pleased was a daily indulgence I was looking forward to enjoying every morning during the glorious summer ahead, and today was going to be one of those lazy days.
